I got a new book in the mail, a cook book by Susan Cianciolo (just 24 pages). I like it, it gives me little more inspiration to cook (I always need it). She has credited her daughter for illustrations too, that's inspirational too. I found the book via Melinda. Ordered it from Tiny Person.



Many years ago I found this book in the bookshelf of Yuko and bought the book for myself too. I had liked her clothes in the Purple magazine and iD magazine and seen them in a shop in Tokyo even longer ago. And twice I almost met her.

Uusi kirja/vihkonen ja vanhempi kirja. Susan Cianciolo, yksi lempivaatesuunnittelija. Tekee mieli piirtää ja ommella ja virkata ja pitää ompelukerhoa. Ja tekee mieli tehdä ruokaakin. Ja tehdä tyttären kanssa.

Voisin ottaa joka ilta jotain kuvia eteisen lattialla. Ja otankin. Tänään V:n jaloista ja sen uusista teipeistä, "Otetaan muistokuva!"

A new book we have since V's birthday. Illustrated by Matti Pikkujämsä. Poetry. The favourite poem of the vegetarian kid is the one about a hawk who bites a poor sparrow. The hawk doesn't hate the sparrow, he's just used to eating raw meat.

The fox bag was an exercise to print on fabric. It's V's fox from the birthday party invitations.

She is into drawing with pencil these days, and for some reason she's drawing and writing all over the place. She wasn't really doing that before, but the pencil seems to be leading her to do that. She has scribbled something on my laptop too, I just noticed.

I should start a separate blog to show all her artwork, she's insanely productive. One morning Y was complaining about the table being full of our stuff, and she said "I like to draw". As an explanation.

I sew pants for little V. I tell myself "do not improvise, get a pattern". They are very, very wide.

Testiprinttaus kangaskassiin. Pitää jatkaa harjoituksia, ja hankkia värejä. V on innostunut lyijykynistä. Piirustelee ja kirjoittelee sinne tänne, jokin siinä välineessä houkuttelee sellaiseen toimintaan. Mua naurattaa se kovasti, vaikka pitää sanoa, ettei niin saa tehdä. Pikku V:lle pöksyt. Yritin kehittää jonkinlaisen kaavan, mutta liioittelin ja tein niistä ihan kauhean leveät.

his first time at the beach

We're going to have a "Children's Beach Party" on this beach this summer. On some days I'm really excited about it, on others totally discouraged.

V didn't swim on this day. Our old cat peed on her swimsuit. I'm a bit happy about this because I found beautiful swimsuits for her. 2 nice ones, I can't decide which one to get.

The little fox was here again. Maybe it's an orphan. Suddenly it's not so happy anymore to see it. But it is so, so cute. V would like to invite it inside. We played foxes under the table.

I wish I had a big empty table and a lot of time. Some time. I'd like to sew for myself too.

Rannalla ei oltu tänään, se oli joku toinen päivä. Sellaisesta tulee kesäolo. Ei oikein ole kesäolo. Päivät vaan kuluu. Ihan liian nopeasti. Kettu oli taas pihalla, nyt suremme sitä. Ehkä se on orpo. Leikittiin kettuja pöydän alla, V saalisti 2 pupua, rusakon, myyrän, oranssiraitaisen hiirikassin ja kuikan.

I often think that we don't see too many animals even though we are in the countryside. But today we saw a baby fox! There was also a raccoon dog one morning.

I love baskets. Y doesn't. "That's how it tends to be", said a basket guy who was selling baskets by the bakery. I got a nice one and one for V almost for free. She wanted a different one with painted berries on it. But it was expensive and I said she could paint on this one.

And I finally did some sewing. These pants are very cute on her but she's not into pants. There a stripey shirt soon too.

Ketunpoikanen käveli pihan poikki. Miten söpö se olikaan.

V maalasi koriinsa kukkia. Paljon nätimpi kori tuli kuin se minkä se olisi halunnut korinmyyjältä.

Ompelin vähän, kesähousut. Ehdin nähdä sen verran, että ne on ihan huippusöpön malliset, mutta V ei ole housutyttö. Ehei. Raidallinen paita on vielä kesken. Ompeleminen on ihanaa, olen kaivannut sitä. Katselin jotain lastenvaatekuvia ja suunnittelin pienellekin housuja. Puhun ompelemisesta koko ajan.

V's youngest aunt brought her these dolls. R said she saved them from her boyfriend's grandmother's attic, they would've been burnt(?) otherwise. I don't think they are very old, from the 80's maybe. I will ask the rabbit and bear maker lady, she also collects dolls. But the dolls are really fascinating. The other one had her eyes out of place and the other one was missing shoe laces. Y fixed the eyes. I wanna make clothes for them. It's easy to understand why people get crazy about dolls, making and fixing. They have my dream hair.


I have made rhubarb juice and cut my hair very stupidly.

Nukkeja, jotka muuttivat tänne meille. R-täti pelasti ne hävitykseltä. Tajusin yhtäkkiä miksi ihmiset innostuvat nukeista. Niille tekee mieli ommella vaatteita, ja voi miten monta kuvaa otin! Ihanat tukat. Molempien niskassa lukee Natasha, mutta ne on ihanasti ihan eri näköisiä.

We sleep inside mosquito nets. There have been so many mosquitos. Right now they're gone, it got colder again. We just got a new one for the big bed, and it saved little V from falling down from the bed one day. I love being inside the net, safe. This is pure necessity but I think they look quite nice.

Two great ones have passed away. Louise Bourgeois and Kazuo Ohno. They were very old.

Itikkaverkkojen alla ollaan. Välillä teki mieli olla siellä koko ajan. Nyt itikat on jossain poissa, kun tuli viileämpää. Kunpa ne ei tulisi takaisin. Verkot on kivoja, mutta heti kun niitä ei tarvita, ne otetaan pois.

I'm so in love looking at them, how they appreciate each other. And they play together too. So that I get to drink a big cup of coffee and read new Apartamento.

I made my first cake from Babycakes, and it was super wonderful. I found the recipe book from 3191, recommended it to a friend and now I'm borrowing the book.

Pienet kultani tykkäävät toisistaan, niiden katsominen on ihan yliliikuttavaa. Voikohan sellaista sanaa olla. V on kuitenkin aika tottunut siihen, että äidillä on usein kyynel silmässä. V sanookin aina joskus, että jokin on "niin ihanaa että itkettää".

Tein ihanan banaanikakun Babycakes-kirjan ohjeella. En malta odottaa seuraavaa leipomiskertaa.
