garden thoughts

i should be working right now (translating japanese to finnish), but i'll write just a little now, before V falls asleep in her bed. it's nap time. in this photo, behind me and V (old one from last spring) is the site of the garden... it looks pretty sad. it is clay soil on this side of the yard. it's been used cultivating wheat, but not for years. we had some vegetables there on our first summer there (2005). i guess we need sand, horse shit, compost and a tractor. sand we have, beautiful sand. there are horses in a neighboring house (i didn't ask yet). another neighbor (many of them, i suppose!) has a tractor, but does he have the "thing" to put behind the tractor, to do what needs to be done? (i'm lacking a lot of words here...) have to ask.

i've been making some lists and maps of what i would like to have there, it's quite a lot of fun. i'd like to have a kitchen and herb garden, but also lots of flowers. espsecially flower bushes. and fruit trees for the sake of flowers as well as fruit. and berries. the yard is really starting from almost zero, i'm gonna need a lot of patience to wait for everything to grow. unpatience is my big problem... i like blue and violet and pink flowers. some white too. hanging out with V, i've started to like yellow and orange colours too, that i didn't really like before. i'm wanting to have a yellow ceiling for example.

besides the obvious (carrots, potatos, onions, salads, spinach etc) i want to have many different kinds of beans and different beetroots (yellow and stripey). oh, and broccoli, cauliflower and other "kaali". rhubarb and strawberries.

back to trees, i'm wondering if an almond tree would live in finland? it would be so suiting to Manteli (=almond in finnish). V sleeps now, so it's work time for me. (first some ice-cream.)
