some weeks ago Y got us a new amplifier and a new record player (i'm supposed to pay for it, as i'm the one insisting on buying vinyls). one of the records that sound remarkably different without the static and rattle is this one: "Holiday in Rhode Island" by the Softies. it is a record for private moments as it seems to irritate men (hah). my ex-boyfriend was annoyed (that's of course my interpretation) by the lyrics "i wasted all my wishes on you, i have nothing left to say..." it didn't have anything to do with any situation at the time, but... i love the sweet and pathetic tragedies of the songs. there is also a song that i've listened to feeling exactly like that: "i wish i had never known a heart that beats just like my own, how can one so close become so far away in just a day, in just a day". we used to always be breaking up with Y the first 2 years.
i was humming "Just a day" in the morning, and V said: "aina sama juttu. sä laulat samaa laulua." (=always the same thing. you sing the same song). one song that i am always humming though is another one, "Scarborough Fair". a bit embarrassing.
rainy day activities: making paper dolls. i was at a kindergarten meeting (disappointed) last night, and Y and V continued cutting. V made capes to everyone. the characters are from Totoro, another rainy day activity.

Always a joy to visit Manteli, I really like the range of topics you show and write about, from happiness to everyday problems and now I have Scarborough Fair in my head too but please don't be embarassed, never, thats what makes it really interesting, the not so much edited thoughts.

Paperinukkehomma ei ole meillä saanut tulta vielä kunnolla alleen. Ehkä sitten kun tyttö osaa tehdä niille itse vaatteita. Itselleni paperinuket oli pienenä ja vielä aika isonakin kovin tärkeitä. Tein niitä monta perheellistä. Ja aina perheen isä oli toimittaja-valokuvaaja.
Mä muistan marjaliisa kirvesniemi- paperinuken, joka oli naimisissa urho kekkonen-paperinuken kanssa.
Mulla soi päässä raivoisasti joko a) mustasukkaisuutta tango(jjärjen vveeit, ja mminusta orrrjan teit..) tai b) "two sisters", irlantilainen kansanlaulu.
Mä tykkään hei kanssa näistä arkipostauksista. Älä vaan poista mitään.
Lucky you who can listen to music! I miss it, but here we are happy when it's just QUIET sometime... and I guess we should buy a new amplifier as well to make it enjoyable.

ah, i am also singing "Scarbourough", pretty hard to sing, and "Nicolas and Bart" from joan Baez ! super vintage, and make me feel a little bit ashamed when the kids sing it in the supermarket...But my best one is "dream of a land my soul is from....afro blue" from i don't remember...
Scarborough Fair was the song I sang to my children as they went to sleep when they were little. They loved it. That and the streets of London. No need to be embarrassed we are all in good company!
