sunny

i have a new rhythm: evening blogging, as i haven't had working time in the days lately. i wanted to write about social life. the cake is a leading into that direction. i made the same chocolate-tofu cake i made for V's birthday. we had some for dessert yesterday, and V went into some weird screaming stage about having guests to eat the cake with us. social life in the past week includes: a visit to a very bohemian family, or their puppies and kittens; me and V spent one day at M, N & N's place to give Y some space to work; my mum and aunt have been here; i read in the local newspaper about a very nice sounding couple living in this village; neighbor's weekend kid (she drives me crazy) spent one whole day here, we got the little pool out!; talking on the phone with 3 different people besides the immediate family. i was thinking to go to Helsinki, but none of our friends are there tomorrow! summer unavailability has started... there's even a park festival with some nice bands. i miss Helsinki, but it's a nice feeling. i don't want to end up going only to different shops with V. we're gonna hit some flea-markets instead.

i haven't seen too many movies lately, but i'm still in the mood of the last one: Mikio Naruse's A Woman Ascends the Stairs (it was the last movie of my private Naruse festival i was having in town). it would be great to be able to visit cities in a different era... 50's...

kirti, here's the recipe, hope it makes some sense...

200g digestive cookies (are they global?)
1-2 dl maple syrup or 1/2 dl melted margarine/butter

crush and mix, put in the bottom of a cake mold that has detachable side (...?)

170g dark chocolate
1 package silken/soft tofu
(4 tablespoons maple syrup)
3-4 tablespoons agar agar flakes
1/2 l oat or soy milk

melt the chocolate
add the tofu with a fork
(add syrup)
mix agar agar with the milk and boil quietly
for 7-10 min.

add choc.+tofu to the milk and mix well with a hand mixer
pour the mix "hurriedly" on the cookie crumbs and put the cake in the cold.
eat after couple of hours.

(oh recipes are quite difficult to translate)

Your cake looks very tempting and reminds me of the strange fact that I managed to celebrate Thanksgiving in the US three years in a row without seeing a single wing of a turkey! I was invited to vegetarian parties and the only poor little vegan around had to fight hard to get a piece of his vegan pumpkin pie because everybody liked it best, vegetarian or not...

Never saw a Naruse film, will check it out and the idea of visiting citys in other eras sounds very tempting, very good idea, 10/20ies Berlin, 50ies and late 60ies: Paris, late seventies, NY and...
