V built a MÖRKÖESTE with my mum. a barricade. mörkö is a character in the Moomin Valley. it is called The Groke in english... original swedish is Mårran, Urr in estonian, Buka in polish... "translating" names is so funny. i was very impressed by this installation. there are also green signs saying: ei mörköjä tänne (no grokes allowed).
here is the other kitchen window from the outside. that's what's happening: Manteli took off it's old coat and waits for a new one. we are super happy. the house looks so much nicer in this state, and even the stupid aluminum windows look better without the clumsy side panes (upstairs and veranda is made with old and pretty ones). it feels like we will end up with a beautiful house after all. can't wait. new boards arrived yesterday from a close by sawmill.

never knew about BUKA! i remember my funny childhood stories, mostly they took place in my grandma`s house or in an old garden of a school for blind children. what wonderful memories are created, and you have taken pictures of it!
I played a lot like that when I was a kid!! I was always building what i called houses... Seems like you are now playing the adult version of it, ha, ha... :)
it's so fun to see the progress of your house. where is that wallpaper from? i'm sure i can't get it in the states, but i'm really curious!

Jill, the wallpaper is from a finnish company, Tapettitalo, and it is designed by the finnish designer Birger Kaipiainen in the 50's. i love it too, but it is quite demanding: it demands peace and quiet and ascetic surrounding... (this question appears every time!)
i learned about all those mörkö names from wikipedia. it wasn't there in so many languages. i'm wondering about french. and japanese!
there seems to be one groke right in middle of the field, but i guess he/she can read...
