this is what Y has mostly been up to on his holiday. before the actual hammering new wood on the outside wall, a lot of preparatory work: finding new windows (double windows) for upstairs, making a new structure to fit the windows and not get the roof fall down, emptying the upstairs. we got a container in the yard and it took away the old gips boards, plastics and junk. Y separated metal and paper and the insulation made of peat, it can be used for compost and garden. some junk went to S & U's kids' art workshop that's taking place in the village right now. dusty and heavy work. and now! it's all clean and beautiful, no-one would ever guess how it looked like. good work, Y! this window is facing the sunrise and the field i always take photos of. we always dreamed of waking up up there. that will start happening some time next year...? the wood on the floor here is the kitchen and kamari ceiling paneling from above. finding the windows was a lot of work, as we were not willing to pay a lot of money for them. all other windows have ended up here more or less for free. we wanted them to be a bit lower than the first floor windows, and that size proved to be quite rare. ...i'm such a cheater talking about "we", Y is the one doing all the work, searching and finding, planning and organising. i participate in thinking though, and maybe 10% of my ideas are quite good!
writing on wood, it is the name of this place. before it was called something else which we changed a tiny bit into Manteli.

V's evening ritual: playing with birds. windows again.

i'm all the time confused about what day it is, i think it's either saturday or sunday as Y is at home. occasionally i feel like it's friday. some funny situations caused by that. this is how the father and the daughter communicate on his holiday...

i was hoping that you find some time to post again; and how positive it sounds; i will do some work too in the next days; and see you on the weekend, hm?
Näkymä ikkunasta on kyllä uskomaton.
Isä ja tytär-kuvat ovat ihania. Oi.
wow, Y has done an amazing job...the upstairs room is gorgeous with that triangular window. You are both creating a really personal, interesting, sculptural, loved home aren't you. It's very very inspiring, thanks for posting so many photos.
what a great view from up top there and I adore the pic of your daughter "talking" :)
Your home looks so beautiful and peaceful. I would love to wake up to that view.
I'm so impressed by the work you guys are doing... you rock!
Love the stripped tshirts!
Hi, I wrote a comment but it desapeared ! (hope you won't get twice): it says: i wish i could have a piece of the previous chocolate cake and seat in the ouside listen to
the birds. far for a moment from Paris...
cheers to Mr. Natural Talent! I really admire your ideas and patience! That will turn into a very special and cosy bedroom. Can you stand up straight? Or is it more like a loft?
Their communication looks so cute...
Hello !
I took one of your pictures to talk about your beautiful blog on mine... I hope you won't mind. Do not hesitate to tell me though ! Cheers.
hello, and thank you.
the upstairs still needs insulation in every direction and then new floor. all that will have to wait. after the outside, the veranda, the "hall"... i guess we are patient, but all this is such a big step to better living from how we've been in town, waiting, not so patiently...
i (175cm) will be able to stand right in the middle of the room, so it will be very sleepy kind of space. and a kid space. before there was any kid, we were thinking of a "library".
V is learning all kinds of sign language, this is "long nose".
regarding your comment, I'd love to come over and play ball at your place! i'm not good at it though, so maybe I would crash one of your precious old windows...
when we were looking at our house for the first time, I was nervous that the ceiling might be too low: The house is built in 1895 and J is 192cm in height. Fortunately, the ceiling was higher than that.
wow, 1895! in my dream it was an invisible, or actually imaginary ball, so there was no danger. it was like a socialising practice.
Hi,
I hope you don't mind but I really quite love some of your photographs and featured them on my journal:
http://hagebutten.livejournal.com/
hello Christina, thank you. i'm very moved by that, and what you said there... nice morning surprise! i couldn't see your Jour ordinaire, but i will go to hagebutten again!
