"beehive dress"

i'm also happy about my new dress. i think i buy clothes very rarely, but this time i managed to find something. (me and V went to town, i had some errands. we met up with my mum who took V to the playground and i was running around free.)
it is from the first "finnish young designers" shop, and i was lucky enough to meet M of vainio-seitsonen there. i once worked with them and i really like their work, this dress is the first garment i own from them. oh also a t-shirt they gave. they are lovely people and they are honest in their work.
i also found a dream coat in another shop where i love to go. where to find extra 390 euros? my mum asked me: "is it warm and practical?" no, not exactly... it is just dream perfect, like a "Blue riding hood".

also happy about finding some use for old Green&Black's cocoa cans. fabric + glue. i forgot to mention this to N when we met last week.

it is Total White Out outside.

happy

i am happy.
snow! photos from the fresh morning, Thursday, but the snow is still here. it sounds so different outside. and there's light and glitter. i like cold too. today we had a walk with the sledge and a walk to the forest to see footprints, and there was a lot of them! quite a busy forest behind us. it is a new forest now. cats are amazed and mostly sleeping inside.

i'm happy about some other things too: my translations got good feedback, they're the first ones to that publisher. something else too.

first snow of course requires snow lanterns.

hats and scarves

...is what i'm doing everyday. there are 6 dolls in V's dollhouse and they need some winter gear... very rewarding to make them hats and scarves, one at breakfast, another at the café. we had an impromptu knitting/crocheting club meeting with I yesterday. oh how i like her! it was maybe our 5th meeting and she just feels so familiar. i just don't know any of the people she's talking about. today she's having a crafting meeting at her place. crafting for the benefit of the village mill. there's a christmas fair in 2 weeks.

yesterday a beautiful film arrived and the whole family watched it together:
"Le ballon rouge" by Albert Lamorisse (from 1956)

what beauty and sweetness. 50's Paris. the clothes, the streets, the stores. i can't wait to watch the other film by him.

(this is, by the way, 200th post - sounds a bit nerdy!)

Arbeiterfrau mit Kind, um 1931

i'm abusing Y's book and August Sander by choosing a photo that is not so masterful technically. i'm choosing this person and her socks. there are so many beautiful garments in these books. i have to question myself on what grounds i choose a photo. is it for the wallpaper or all those pleats on the dress. with my heart of course. i just have to wait and look, look...

i have given myself a free day today. i will start sewing a christmas present and have an exclusive grown-up coffee with I.

i will listen to Satie, Cinematic Orchestra, Windy & Carl, Monade and YLT: "Today is the Day"!

city of animals

i've been meaning to post about this book for at least 1 year. now there is also a new book by Hannamari Ruohonen, "it snows in the city of animals". it's from the library now, and that is an official christmas present hint.
this wasn't love at first sight for me (Y bought the first book) but it's endlessly funny and the animals are realistic (not in their actions though!), and there's a LOT of different animals. no text but many stories. you can spend as much time "reading" it as you feel like. and the pictures are full of details, it reminds of the Richard Scarry books i liked as a kid.

(making this post right here, right now means that i have made my both deadlines! yeah!)

and listening to
Alice Coltrane "A Monastic Trio" ♡

the report

i haven't been drawing every day, but:
i've made some characters from the other book i'm working on, and V made a cat (i sew it together, but she sews by herself too) (the translations are practically finished, exciting times)
we have a new temporarily fixed lamp, very bright light above the heavily lacquered table (it's an old lamp)
V and Y had a crafting project for kindergarten (father's day present)
i finally finished the-cutest-cardigan-ever, my experiment of knitting only square parts. 10 buttons is a bit too many...
i have a lot scents from the incense shop where i worked, scent shop they call it. and these are scents to listen to. i'm not into incense usually but there are very nice mild ones in their selection.
