i've been meaning to post about this book for at least 1 year. now there is also a new book by Hannamari Ruohonen, "it snows in the city of animals". it's from the library now, and that is an official christmas present hint.
this wasn't love at first sight for me (Y bought the first book) but it's endlessly funny and the animals are realistic (not in their actions though!), and there's a LOT of different animals. no text but many stories. you can spend as much time "reading" it as you feel like. and the pictures are full of details, it reminds of the Richard Scarry books i liked as a kid.
(making this post right here, right now means that i have made my both deadlines! yeah!)

This looks like something for my boy - he is really into Richard Perry-books, the details. Good idea, by the way to just skip the text.

i have really grown to like these books, there's always something new to the adult eye too, and also i like the non-cute style of her drawings. not underestimating children.
